Week 5 - Athletics Day

Our school athletics day was last Tuesday, it was a very windy day. But everyone had so much fun!

Check out Vonairay and Tai's writing.

                                         Athletics Day

Clapping and cheering with excitement. Getting ready to pull we spread out, as I hear Mr Lintott say “Ready Set Go”! We start pulling as hard as we could to win . Cheering from the team's Yellow, orange, purple and blue. My feet are sliding through the grass from the other team green pulling it, the long slippery rope is sliding through my hands and giving me sore hands.

My hands are tired from pulling the rope, the bright yellow sun is shinning on my eyes so I can’t really see much but I am trying my best to pull hard. It is annoying because when we pull the rope near our cone the green team pulls it near their cone, so that’s why the game kept on going on and my hands are sore.

The time has come to see who is going to win. The green team is pulling as hard as they can so as we are too. As so the green team won, my hands are red and painful. Green team had done a really good job of pulling as well.

Week 4 - Athletics

Next week is our school athletics day so we have been learning some key tips to improving our athletic ability. Today we worked on high jump. Did you know it is important to keep your run up fast to help you jump high?

We practiced with skipping ropes today with partners who would challenge us. It was a lot less scary using the ropes than trying to jump over the pole that can fall and hurt us!

Check out our technique!

Week 9 - Staff vs. Students!

In the last week of school we held a staff vs students netball game. The competition was fierce, the players were pumped. It was a fantastic game!

There is a bit of a dispute about the final score with the students adamant they won, but the staff are just as sure it was them!

Who will take out the game next year?

The junior students ran first and all of the seniors cheered them on. Then it was time for the seniors to run. The Y6 students were the last to run. We went as hard and as fast as we could and in Scott Class the placings went to...

Week 8 - Farewell

This week we said farewell to our two awesome office ladies Mrs Loader and Mrs Roberts.

In Scott Class we decided to do a skit acting out a day in the office as we see it. Simione and Ayush played Mrs Roberts and Mrs Loader. They were fantastic! Check out the faces of the audience.

We had tears of laughter!!

Week 8 - Planting

Scott Class and Setoga Class are currently competing to see who can grow the biggest and best plants.

On Thursday we planted our seeds. First we had to put our soil tablets on a saucer and then added 50mls of water. The soil swelled up and provided us with enough to plant the seeds. The seeds are planted in biodegradable pots so we can plant them in the group when the seedlings are big enough!

Make sure you check back for updates!

Week 8 - Netball Prize Giving

This year Hay Park had two teams entered in the Three Kings Netball Association competition. Both teams played really well throughout the season.

On Saturday we had the prize giving at Mt Roskill Intermediate. Hay Park B team did really well. They were runners up in both the first and second championships!

Well done B team!

There were lots of very proud families.

Week 1 Extreme Makeover - Scott Class Edition

On the first day this term I issued Scott Class with a challenge - design our classroom in the best way for us to learn.

In pairs we created a plan for how we wanted to arrange our class. We then presented our ideas to the class and identified the best parts from each plan. The best parts were then combined to make a plan for our class.

We then rearranged just about all of the furniture in our class! We love our new layout!

SPCA Board Games

Towards the end of last term Scott Class did some learning about the SPCA, animal welfare and how to care for animals. As a way to share our learning we created board games. We featured in an article in the Central Leader (which you can see online here).

This week we have been finishing off our games and trailing them. We gave each other feedback on the games. Some of them were really fun to play!

We hope to take our games to some other classes to play around our school.

So much fun!

Week 7 - Blogging with our families

Tomorrow, we are holding some workshops for our families to learn how to comment on our blogs. We have made a screencast of how to write a blog comment in case our families forget.

Check out how you can comment on a blog if you don't have a Google account.

Week 7 - Hockey

Hockey is gearing up at the moment. We have our mixed team competing at the zone competition next week and the girls the following week.

Today we were learning how to do a sweep pass. A sweep pass is a powerful pass where you sweep your stick along the ground before it connects with the ball. Check us out in action.

Week 6 - Samoan Language Week

Last week was Samoan Language Week. In Scott Class we are very luck to have some expert Samoan Language speakers. They helped us learn how to have a basic conversation in Samoan.

We then recorded them and had a go at using a green screen to make it look like they were in Samoa!

We are all very excited about using our green screen to take us all over the world! Keep an eye out to see where we go next.

Week 5 - Mau rākau

This term the boys in Scott Class, and some of the year 5 boys from Killeen Class are taking part in mau rākau each Wednesday.  Mau  rākau is a programme of Māori weaponry that involves children from different cultures. They are learning traditional methods and protocols, and also te reo Māori.
