Week 7 - Blogging with our families

Tomorrow, we are holding some workshops for our families to learn how to comment on our blogs. We have made a screencast of how to write a blog comment in case our families forget.

Check out how you can comment on a blog if you don't have a Google account.

Week 7 - Hockey

Hockey is gearing up at the moment. We have our mixed team competing at the zone competition next week and the girls the following week.

Today we were learning how to do a sweep pass. A sweep pass is a powerful pass where you sweep your stick along the ground before it connects with the ball. Check us out in action.

Week 5 - Mau rākau

This term the boys in Scott Class, and some of the year 5 boys from Killeen Class are taking part in mau rākau each Wednesday.  Mau  rākau is a programme of Māori weaponry that involves children from different cultures. They are learning traditional methods and protocols, and also te reo Māori.

Week 5 - Saturday Netball

This year Hay Park has two teams competing in the Saturday netball competition. For some of us is means we have to get up really early on a Saturday morning, but it's so much fun we don't mind!

Each Saturday we have two twenty minute games, with a twenty minute break in between. Sometimes the teams stay to watch each other play. Both teams are improving each week, which is a great start to the season.

Keep up the fantastic work teams!

Week 4 - Maths Night

Last week we held our annual Maths Night at Hay Park. All of our families are invited along to come and learning about what we are learning in maths at school. We also teach our families a game we can take home and play.

Families, if you missed the evening this is the presentation Mrs Rai put together. It might be helpful for you and your children.

This year we had an awesome turnout despite the horrible weather!

Sariah shared with us how she solves maths problems.

Lot's of families ready to hear about their child's learning

Week 4 - New arrival at Hay Park

Over the weekend we have had a new arrival at Hay Park... do you know what this is?

It's a 3D printer!

The students in Setoga Class were really keen to see what was happening

Here it is done, and its first creation was... a message saying hi!
I can't wait to see what awesome things we can design and print. Have you ever used a 3D printer?

Week 3 - Swingball

We have recently got some new balls for our swing ball sets. As the sports monitors and peer mediators we went outside to learn how to play, so we can help teach the other students.

We are loving having swing ball up and going again. It's such a great game!

Jayzel & Ayush have a go, while others wait in line.

Week 2 - Word Wheel

In Scott Class we are working hard to expand our vocabulary. Today we talked about some of the new words we have been finding in books we are reading. Then we chose 3 words to go on our word wheel (eerie, gulped and mutate) and worked either by ourselves or in pairs to come up with a sentence (or paragraph) using those words. Here are a couple that we came up with.

I gulped down the special serum in the eerie room called
"The room of darkness". It will give me a mutation that will give me the ability to see in the dark to help me finish the puzzle.  - Nikolai

My Group: Hulita, Lorna and Osana
My group writing: I gulped as I walked into the eerie room and just  as I thought nothing could get worse I saw a tiny mouse mutate into a hairy fat ugly beast.

A super busy term!

We have been really busy in Flox Class this term, especially over the last couple of weeks. We have had a trip to the Marine Education and Recreation Centre in Long Bay, a cycle safety session with Bigfoot Adventures, a session with Constable Rob, hockey tournaments, parent/student conferences and presenting an assembly!

Here is our asembly slide show which we all collaborated on together as a class. It captures some of thing things we have been up to lately.
