WALT use precise nouns to add detail for our reader.

This week in writing we have been using precise nouns to make our writing more specific for the reader.

We took a paragraph and changed the nouns from general nouns to precise nouns.

Here is an example.

In the weekend I had to do lots of shopping with my Mum. We went to the shop diary to get some food. We also went to look for a present for my cousin’s birthday. I had to choose between a doll and a soft toy. After that we went to the shop to buy some clothes, I got two new items and a pair of shoes. Because I had been so good, mum took me to the shop to buy an ice block. Lucky me!

And then on Thursday the 12th of November Hay Park will be part of the Google Expedition Pioneer Programme! Want to know more? Check out this Youtube clip. Flox Class will be visiting the moon!

Athletics - Running

During week 1 and 2 we have had Andy come in and coach us on our sprinting skills.  In week 1 we learned about sprinting technique and in week 2 we focused on our starts.

There are 7 key skills we need to increase our sprinting skills.

  1. Eyes straight ahead.
  2. Light feet.
  3. High knees.
  4. Bent arms.
  5. Cheek to cheek arms.
  6. Run straight.
  7. Run tall.
Check out these photos of us practicing. Can you tell which skill we were practicing?

The skills we focused on for our starts are:

  • Look straight ahead (not at the starter!)
  • What to do on the starters calls (Take your mark, set, go)
  • Improving our reaction time (the amount of time it takes us to get moving once we hear the signal to go).
We are very excited about athletics day which is coming up in week 5! We will be able to put all of our athletics skills to use.

Maths in Flox Class

This week we have been working hard on making sure we have mastered a strategy we can use for solving addition and subtraction problems.

We have really enjoyed working through problems, on our own and with others.

Check out Spencer and Simione working together.

Ka pai boys!
